Summary
El padre Anthony Fowler， espía del servicio secreto del Vaticano， cumple el encargo de encontrar a un antiguo criminal nazi que ha permanecido oculto durante décadas。 Debe recuperar un objeto que años atrás había pertenecido a una familia judía víctima del Holocausto。 El hallazgo， no obstante， será el desencadenante de una aventura que le llevará hasta el desierto de Jordania。

Se trata de un thriller que se desarrolla durante una expedición en busca del Arca de la Alianza。 Sin embargo， entre el ritmo y la ambientación casi podríamos considerarla como una novela de aventuras。La trama es más sencilla que en la novela anterior， lo que le permite dar un mayor ritmo a la historia y que ésta sea más clara。 Las diversas historias avanzan de tal forma que nos permite ir conociendo todos los secretos que guardan los personajes en el momento más adecuado y comprender mejor cada Se trata de un thriller que se desarrolla durante una expedición en busca del Arca de la Alianza。 Sin embargo， entre el ritmo y la ambientación casi podríamos considerarla como una novela de aventuras。La trama es más sencilla que en la novela anterior， lo que le permite dar un mayor ritmo a la historia y que ésta sea más clara。 Las diversas historias avanzan de tal forma que nos permite ir conociendo todos los secretos que guardan los personajes en el momento más adecuado y comprender mejor cada uno de ellos。Lectura ágil y entretenida como todas las de éste autor en la que se nota una evolución en ese estilo propio de Juan Gómez Jurado。Para mí un punto por encima de "Espía de Dios" y al nivel ya de alguna de sus novelas más vendidas。 Una buena recomendación si lo que se busca es algo ligero y entretenido 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 4 sterren - Nederlandse paperback Heinrich Graus， een Oostenrijkse oorlogsmisdadiger， gaat na de Tweede Wereldoorlog als Baltasar Handwurz door het leven en is in het bezit van een kaars van de Joodse familie Cohen。 Deze kaars wordt gezocht omdat hij belangrijke informatie zou bevatten over de plaats waar de Ark des Verbonds zich bevindt。De miljardair Raymond Kayn heeft geld en middelen beschikbaar gesteld om， met een geselecteerde groep mensen， deze schat te gaan zoeken。 De groepsleden kennen e 4 sterren - Nederlandse paperback Heinrich Graus， een Oostenrijkse oorlogsmisdadiger， gaat na de Tweede Wereldoorlog als Baltasar Handwurz door het leven en is in het bezit van een kaars van de Joodse familie Cohen。 Deze kaars wordt gezocht omdat hij belangrijke informatie zou bevatten over de plaats waar de Ark des Verbonds zich bevindt。De miljardair Raymond Kayn heeft geld en middelen beschikbaar gesteld om， met een geselecteerde groep mensen， deze schat te gaan zoeken。 De groepsleden kennen elkaar niet en worden overal ter wereld vandaan gehaald。 Onder de 23 leden bevinden zich de journaliste Andrea Otero en Antony Fowler （priester） alias Tony Brent en lid van de Heilige Alliantie， de geheime dienst van het Vaticaan。In een expeditie naar Jordanië wordt pas goed duidelijk dat niemand de groep mag verlaten tot de Ark is gevonden。 Maar met evenveel enthousiasme als de expeditie- leden zich inzetten om dit doel te bereiken， is een onzichtbare tegenstander er alles aan gelegen om dat te voorkomen。 Ondanks het feit dat religie uitgangspunt is van de expeditie， draait men de hand niet om voor een moord als dat het doel dichterbij brengt。In het boek Vreemde culturen zoals het koffieritueel van de Bedoeïenen en de liefde om als Moslim te sterven voor Allah wordt met overtuiging beschreven。 Tevens schuwt hij de dubbele agenda van Het Vaticaan niet of het nu het Nazi-tijdperk betreft of haar visie omtrent het ontstaan van God。Het besteedt ook tijd aan herkomst en maatschappelijke achtergrond van de belangrijke personages in het verhaal。 Dat is van belang omdat dedrientwintig leden van de expeditie voor elkaar volkomen onbekenden zijn。 Ook op dat punt is het verhaal mooi rond， maar daar schuilt gelijk een gevaar in。 Een dubieus punt voor mij was is het gemak waarmee， in het verhaal， personen in het verdwijnen。 Op enig moment ontstaat de gedachte dat zijn doelstelling is om niemand te laten overleven。Het verhaal gaat over een heilig relikwie en de expeditie om het te zoeken。en de tegen standers die het proberen te dwarsbomen。Maar het beschrijf ook de geloofsovertuiging van verschillende geloof richtingen。 Ook de humor van de journaliste Andrea die met haar spontane opmerkingen mijn aan het lachen bracht。 Jammer dat het boek maar 400 bladzijdes telt， want het leest erg vlot en de gebeurtenissen volgen elkaar in rap tempo op。 En dan is de laatste bladzijde zo een domper。 Het boek is uit。 。。。more

I would have rated this book a 4 star except that the author HAD to throw in a couple of off beat characters to satisfy what I would term， “politically correct” expectations。 However for a book written by an author of his apparent age group and in the middle of the first decade of the turn of the current millennium， this is not particularly shocking。 I hope the author checks the reviews on this site and understands that tweaking a novel for that purpose is sort of caving in to a very small perce I would have rated this book a 4 star except that the author HAD to throw in a couple of off beat characters to satisfy what I would term， “politically correct” expectations。 However for a book written by an author of his apparent age group and in the middle of the first decade of the turn of the current millennium， this is not particularly shocking。 I hope the author checks the reviews on this site and understands that tweaking a novel for that purpose is sort of caving in to a very small percentage of the population。 The majority would probably not be surprised over a “diversion” as such but would not particularly embrace it’s inclusion either。This above element prompted somewhat of a reluctance on my part to get excited over the consistent action and complex situations in the story。 It was well written however and kept up the thrilling pace， but this author could have built the story as easily with more “traditional” characters。 Fortunately he did not dwell in these diversional elements by infusing more unwanted detail to them， because had this been the case Im not sure I could have been as motivated to reach the end！ 。。。more

The Moses Expedition is a thriller about the search for The Ark of the Covenant in the style of Dan Brown et al。 Apparently part of a series （it is stand alone） with Father Anthony Fowler， agent for both the CIA and the Vatican， and journalist Andrea Otero from Spain as constant characters。 In this novel millionaire Raymond Kayn， who was a Jewish survivor Yudel Cohen， has assembled a group of archeologists and security killers to find the relic without letting authorities know of their presence。 The Moses Expedition is a thriller about the search for The Ark of the Covenant in the style of Dan Brown et al。 Apparently part of a series （it is stand alone） with Father Anthony Fowler， agent for both the CIA and the Vatican， and journalist Andrea Otero from Spain as constant characters。 In this novel millionaire Raymond Kayn， who was a Jewish survivor Yudel Cohen， has assembled a group of archeologists and security killers to find the relic without letting authorities know of their presence。 Both from within the group and certainly without are people trying to subvert the mission。 Terrorists in both Jordan and Washington D。C。 aim to prevent the them from obtaining the object with such power。 Members of three religions all want to achieve their various ends。 It is extremely suspenseful， filled with constant terrifying action in Nazi Germany， and contemporary U。 S。， and near East。 None of the characters is particularly empathetic， including Fowler and Andrea， but the villains are indeed horrible。 Even so， it is an exciting read。 Lots of historical background （in spite of an intact Ark being central to the plot） and many of the events are realistically described in spite of the good/bad circumstances。 In fact， I found the conclusion to be totally appropriate。 It totally saved the fantastical elements of the story and pushed the star rating up one notch from a 3 to a 4。If you like thrillers， it is a good one。 And as I said， the conclusion is perfect。 。。。more

Got given this book and this is not the usual genre I tend to go for， I found this an average read。 Bit too slow at the start but picked up later on in the book。。。 better late than never for me as I am finicky about finishing every book I start！ Did not fancy the protagonist， Andrea Otero， although Fr Fowler appeared quite interesting。 Amongst her many character flaws， Ms Otero’s sexuality seemed contrived and more like a commercial gimmick than realistic to me。 The storyline felt unoriginal and Got given this book and this is not the usual genre I tend to go for， I found this an average read。 Bit too slow at the start but picked up later on in the book。。。 better late than never for me as I am finicky about finishing every book I start！ Did not fancy the protagonist， Andrea Otero， although Fr Fowler appeared quite interesting。 Amongst her many character flaws， Ms Otero’s sexuality seemed contrived and more like a commercial gimmick than realistic to me。 The storyline felt unoriginal and clichéd on various counts but held my attention sporadically。 Perhaps certain nuances were lost in translation and may sound better in the original language of the author。 Overall， not the most riveting thriller around but entertaining in its own way。 。。。more
